Marcela Trapé and Alberto Catalá (Buenos Aires)

"Feeling Tango through the Lens of Body Awareness"

Tango Body Awareness Method®

Marcela and Alberto invite you on a journey into the essence of tango, seen through the lens of body awareness.

This workshop is led by Marcela and Alberto, both from Buenos Aires, Argentina. For over 30 years, they have explored the culture of the tango embrace, uniting popular wisdom with deep somatic research. Marcela comes from an academic background in ballet and contemporary dance.
In 1998, she developed her own method to free and sensitize the tango dancer’s body. Her approach highlights the somatic language within dance, allowing each person to discover a more conscious and authentic movement.

Alberto is a tango dancer deeply rooted in the Buenos Aires milonga scene. He received direct transmission from legendary milongueros such as Mingo Pugliese. With more than 30 years of experience, he has not only danced on countless floors but, more importantly, has guided generations of dancers from their very first steps, supporting them with care as they grew into confident social dancers and, in many cases, professionals.

Celine Giordano and Alexis Quezada (France/Chile)

''Making the invisible tangible''

They are highly regarded social tango teachers based in Europe. Alexis, originally from Chile, has resided in Barcelona for 19 years, while Celine is from France.

They have been collaborating for over a decade, specializing in social tango. Their work primarily involves weekend travel to promote their unique approach to tango, which they describe as subtle, comfortable, rich in sensations, and "very tasty."

Their teaching is grounded in a thorough understanding of movement anatomy, musicality, musical interpretation, and practical tango techniques for social dancers.

Francesco Gatti and Johanna Stadtler (Germany)

Francesco Gatti, living and working as fulltime tango-coach in Freiburg (Germany), considers double-role-dance as a highly precious possibility to deepen an authentic connection within the dancing couple. Together with Johanna Stadtler he detects the amazing fineness of tango and they offer workshops, designed to share reliable communication skills.

Proposed Topics to work on:

Crosses (back and front) for rhythmical play on a narrow dance floor

The long-standing joy of "calecitas" and 'double-pivots'

Self-censorship for leaders to spice up your combinations

The enormous potential of 4 different types to change weight

Unbreakable flow by welcoming the quality of delay

Practical:

  • There will be a maximum of 30 Tangonauts participating in each voyage. This way we keep an intimate atmosphere with an easy focus on the road ahead.

  • For social dancing, we dance to classical tango music during the classes and practices, other types of music might be used if deemed better suited by the Captains.

  • The classes will be given in English.

  • We welcome all dancers: leaders, followers, and double role dancers. The pace of the class will be adapted to double role dancers. Changing partners will be encouraged in the classes, but is not mandatory.

Each leg is a stand-alone exploration into one tango universe. We intend to invite the same captains in the future to continue exploring their universe.

Your financial contribution is 220 euros, and includes all classes, all practices, and all social dance moments. Meals mentioned in the program are included. Water, tea, and coffee are included. Other drinks are available with a self-service honesty bar system.

This project is developed in collaboration with Bario de Tango Brugge, our local tango community. We are grateful for their support and welcome all dancers to join the event.

Our hometown, Brugge, is a pearl waiting for you to be discovered. Every corner you turn opens up a new, amazing view. Come and be swept away by the rich history.

The venue is located at a 10-minute walk from the Brugge train station. Brugge has lodging for all budgets.  Everything within the city walls is reachable on foot. You can rent a bicycle at the train station for  12 euros per day. Lodging outside of the city walls can be a bit cheaper.

On Saturday morning, there is a market on 'Het Zand' square, only 5 minutes away from the venue.
